DC Government Buildings Vulnerable to Bomb Attacks
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA)-- A new report put out by DC Protective Services Police department suggests several high profile DC government buildings are open to being attacked with explosives.
For 12 months, undercover officers and recruits with PSPD sneaked in several fake bombs into government buildings.
The Wilson building, the main building for DC government was one that failed the test.
At least three times, fake bombs went right past the screeners at the Wilson Building. It also happened at a building at One Judiciary Square, as well as the Unified Communications Center.
The only building that passed the test was DC Police Headquarters on 300 Indiana N.W. The report shows everything the undercover officers tried to sneak in a fake bomb it was detected and police action was taken.
The findings were made public by the Service Workers Employees International Union, which used the Freedom of Information Act to obtain the report.
Darrell Pressly with the Office of General Services who oversees the PSPD said the intent of this exercise was to find vulnerable spots within their procedures and fix them.
