WASHINGTON DC (WUSA) -- Attention, Christmas shoppers: The cost of partridges, pear trees and turtle doves has spiked. But gold rings are holding steady.
PNC Wealth Management says shoppers who buy all 364 items mentioned in "The Twelve Days of Christmas" will pay more than $100,000 this year, even though the cost of maids-a-milking and lords-a-leaping hasn't risen.
PNC's annual Christmas Price Index says that buying just one set of the items in each verse will cost more than $24,000 this year. That's a moderate 3.5 percent rise.
Six items didn't go up in cost this year. Those were French hens, calling birds, gold rings, maids-a-milking, ladies dancing and lords-a-leaping.
Pipers piping and drummers drumming rose 3 percent. The partridge is still the cheapest item at $15. Swans are the most expensive.
DC's Adventure Theatre singers and The Joy of Motion dance school dancers joined 9 NEWS NOW's Jessica Doyle at the Smithsonian's National Zoo for a whimsical look at the yearly PNC Christmas Price index, a holiday inflation gauge.
