WASHINGTON (WUSA) --  Food Drive 9 will once again team up with the Boy Scouts to go "Scouting for Food".

This effort includes thousands of Boy Scouts and adult leaders. They will distribute more than 800,000 bags to area homes on Saturday, November 5th and return the following Saturday, November 12th to pick them up.

Because of the DC "bag tax", no bags will be distributed in the District of Columbia. Instead, Boy Scouts will be at all 15 DC Safeway stores on Saturday, November 12th seeking donations of non-perishable food.

Last year, we collected more than 850,000 pounds of food and since we began Food Drive 9 in 1995, we have collected nearly 6 million pounds of food.

All donations go to the Capital Area Food Bank and other local feeding programs. Together, they provide more than a million and a half meals each month. The need is severe and increasing, especially for families with children and we can't think of a more meaningful community service than helping to put food on the table for families who need it.
