WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA)-- Saturday November 5th is the American Heart Association heart walk.

W*USA is a proud sponsor of the walk.

This week on 9NEWS NOW in the morning we will highlight stories of survival, healthy eating and how you can support the American Heart Association.

Monday Deanna Linz, a heart attack survivor, shares her story with 9NEWS NOW's Howard Bernstein.

Linz had a heart attack when she was just 40 years old, despite being extremely health conscious, however she couldn't combat family history.

When Linz, now 42, first went to the emergency room, she was dismissed by a nurse who told her she was probably stressed.

A cardiologist took her symptoms seriously and discovered she had a blockage.

Angioplasty was performed and a stent was placed and is once again living a full life.

The Greater Washington Heart Walk is November 5th at Nationals Park.

Activities begin at 8:30am, with the walking starting at 10am.
