ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) - A judge in Aruba has ruled that a U.S. businessman will be held at least 30 more days as a suspect in the presumed death of his travel companion.
The prosecutor's office says keeping Gary Giordano in jail will give them time to evaluate new evidence. The ruling followed a closed hearing Friday.
CATCH UP: The Robyn Gardner Case
Giordano has denied any wrongdoing and has said 35-year-old Robyn Gardner was swept out to sea while snorkeling. Her body has not been found but authorities on the island suspect him of involvement in her death.
Giordano, a businessman from Gaithersburg, Maryland, has been jailed on the island since Aug. 5. At the end of the 30 days, authorities must either release him or bring charges.
