WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA)-- Monday is Food Day in DC, it's a coordinated effort between local businesses and area organizations to educate and encourage people to eat healthier.
It's also aimed at getting voters to urge lawmakers to knock out food deserts by asking Congress to support Food Day goals by signing an online petition.
-Reduce diet-related disease by promoting safe, healthy foods
-Support sustainable farms & limit subsidies to big agribusiness
-Expand access to food and alleviate hunger
-Protect the environment & animals by reforming factory farms
-Promote health by curbing junk-food marketing to kids
-Support fair conditions for food and farm workers
National Food Day activities begin Saturday and continue through Monday on DC Food Day.
