WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) -- Ward eight DC Councilman Marion Barry could easily win re-election in his home district, but the former four term DC Mayor will have some fence-mending to do.
A lot of his constituents expressed hurt feelings Wednesday upon hearing Barry's response to having his car "keyed" and crushed by a stolen hit and run vehicle recently.
Barry said "this is what happens when you live in the ghetto." On Wednesday his immediate neighbors were unanimous in expressing surprise and disappointment in their councilman's remarks.
"This isn't the ghetto. The ghetto is what you make of it," Same Foster, a 30-year-old resident of Southeast, said.
Foster could only laugh when asked how Marion Barry would have responded had a white person made the same ghetto remark.
