WASHINGTON, D.C. (WUSA) - Almost 20% of couples who got married in the last three years met on an online dating site. But as that number continues to grow, so does the competition. How do you set yourself apart? There's a new business in town to help you do just that.
Two years ago, Erika Ettin's online dating profile caught the attention of her current boyfriend.
"I did online dating myself for a long time and I found success that way," said Ettin. "So I thought if I can help other people find success with online dating like I did, that's what I want to be doing for a living."
So Ettin quit her high-powered job in economics and started her own business three-months-ago. It's called A Little Nudge - Online dating's hard. Let us do the work.
"I help people with all aspects of online dating," said Ettin. "Writing their profiles, choosing pictures that make them look their best, choosing who to email, and what to say in those emails."
Ettin's goal is to make your online dating profile shine.
"My goal is to make sure it's you, just your best you."
Think of it as marketing yourself online. Ettin says to start with a clear headshot as your profile picture, be honest, and be specific.
"Guys all say, 'I like to work hard and I like to play hard.' What does that even mean?" said Ettin. "Instead, say something about what you're doing when you're working hard, what you're doing when you're playing hard."
But perhaps the biggest hurdle is simply getting out there in the first place and getting past the stigmas associated with online dating.
"I really think that eventually half of all marriages will be from online dating. That's where everyone is," said Ettin.
Ettin's clients range from age 26 to 63, about half-men, half-women. As for cost? Ettin's basic package - A Little Nudge - is $159. The Platinum Nudge is $600 for the first month. But with that package, you are truly outsourcing your dating. Perfect for busy Washingtonians.
