GERMANTOWN, Md. (WUSA) -- A father saw a man trying to kidnap his son at a Germantown Best Buy and chased him down, police said.
The father and alleged attempted kidnapper began to fight over the child. That's when a group of good Samaritans jumped in to "subdue" the man, according to police. .
The incident happened Wednesday afternoon at approximately 3 p.m., at the Best Buy at 20914 Frederick Road.
Police say Jermaine Laray Palmer, 23, grabbed the boy and tried to leave the store with him.
The child's father, Robert Eugene Cox III of Montgomery Village, saw what was happening. He then chased and subdued Palmer, police said.
That's when other people jumped in to help, say police.
Police say Palmer was charged with the following offenses:
• Assault-First Degree
• Assault -Second Degree (Two counts)
• Disorderly Conduct
• Abduction of a Child Under 12
• Harbor/Abducted Child under 12
• Malicious Destruction of Property
• Kidnapping-Child Under 16
He is being held on $75,000 bond.
