WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- According to an email by the Washington Post, its jobs website was hacked in June. About 1.27 million user IDs and email addresses were affected.

In an email with the subject line "Important message about your account," Director of Digital Product Development Beth Diaz says hackers attacked the website last week (June 27 and June 28) and the Post "quickly identified the attack and were able to shut it down."

According to Diaz, hackers were able to access some user IDS and email addresses but "all passwords remain secure, and no other personal information...was impacted by this attack."

The hackers did not get into other parts of the washingtonpost.com, says Diaz, but jobs website users should look out for spam.

The Post also posted a Q&A about the incident online.

PBS, also in the Washington, D.C. area, had its website hacked twice in a month. Hackers first posted a phony story claiming the late Tupac Shakur was found alive and then hackers stole some user names and encrypted passwords, as well as defaced the "Becoming American" website.
