LAUREL, Md. (WUSA) -- Maryland State Police are trying to determine how a person found inside a burning car died.
Police officials tell 9NEWS NOW they received a report of a car fire on the ramp from westbound Rte. 198 to southbound I-95 around 4 a.m. Maryland State Police and firefighters from Prince George's County responded to the scene. After firefighters extinguished the flames, which spread to nearby brush, a body was found inside a 2006 Jaguar. The car was destroyed in the fire.
Maryland State Police classified the case as a death investigation.
The victim's identity has not been confirmed yet. The body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.
Officials say the cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation.
