WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- DC Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton is calling it a banner day on Capitol Hill for DC residents after an unexpected home rule olive branch from a House committee.
Committee Chair Daniel Issa had been expected to hammer DC leaders on the budget. Instead, he offered to support a plan to approve the city's budget seperately and on a fast track.
Norton said, "That would mean that there'd never be another shutdown because our budget would be out...there would be yes, perhaps opportunities for riders but not as many, and it would be a form of budget autonomy."
Norton also said Thursday night that she joined the Congressional Black Caucus for a meeting with President Obama on Thursday. She says he promised to do a better job protecting DC home rule.
