New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - New Orleans Hornets forward David West has a torn left ACL and will miss the rest of the season, the team said Friday.

West sustained the injury while coming down from a dunk in the final minute of the fourth quarter during Thursday's 121-117 overtime victory over Utah.

He came down hard on the game-tying dunk, buckling his left knee, and had to be carted off the court in a wheelchair.

The eighth-year pro was averaging a team-high 18.9 points and 7.6 rebounds in 70 games for New Orleans.

West's injury came as a huge blow for the Hornets, who held the seventh seed in the Western Conference entering Friday's games. They were only one game ahead of No. 8 Memphis and three games ahead of the surging Houston Rockets with 10 games remaining.
