Armored truck robbery suspects identified

CAMP SPRINGS, Md. (WUSA9) -- Police have identified and released mug shots of four men accused of an armored truck robbery in Camp Springs.

According to Prince George's County police, 25-year-old Antonio Lamar Cooper of Northeast Washington, 21-year-old Maurice Lorenzo Foreman, 19-year-old Eugene Robert Watkins and 18-year-old Juwan Armarni Watkins, both of Southeast Washington were arrested on Wednesday. Police say the last two suspects are brothers.

Police credit witnesses with passing along enough information for them to respond quickly to the scene and ultimately make the arrests.

At about 11:00 am, police say officers were called to the 4800 block of Allentown Road for an armored car robbery. Their preliminary investigation revealed the suspects approached two armored truck employees as they were picking up money from a fast food restaurant. One suspect was the getaway driver, while the remaining three suspects confronted the workers, according to police. The suspects took the workers' "duty weapons" and stole money from the armored car before fleeing in an SUV, say police.

Two men who saw the robbery followed the fleeing suspects in their own pickup truck, say police. They also called 911 to provide information on the suspects and their location. Police say when the suspects noticed they were being followed while traveling down Allentown Road and onto Branch Avenue at least one of them fired a gun toward the witnesses. Bullets hit their truck multiple times. At that time, the driver of the pickup truck, who police say is a former Marine, pulled off Branch Avenue and stopped following the suspects. Neither of the men were hit, say police, but the driver was taken to the hospital for injuries from shattered glass.

Prince Georges' County officers pursued the suspects until the SUV crashed near 34th and M Streets in Southeast Washington, D.C. According to police, a suspect jumped from the SUV armed with a gun when an officer confronted him. An officer was able to tackle him before a shot was fired.

The other suspects ran, say police. One of those suspects was quickly arrested. The Metropolitan Police Department arrested the two other suspects several hours later, according to police. They were found hiding in a nearby neighborhood.

Police say they also found four handguns, including the two taken from the workers, and most -- if not all -- of the stolen money.

Prince George's County police say the suspects will remain in the custody of the Metropolitan Police Department, pending extradition to Prince George's County.
