WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Bisphenol A, the controversial chemical used to make plastic baby bottles and other consumer goods, may now be stocked in your pantry.
Consumer Reports tested 24 different canned foods for BPA. They found many of the samples had higher levels of the chemical.
Recent studies have also shown the exposure to low doses of Bisphenol-A are associated with a wide range of health effects, including various cancers, diabetes and heart disease.
Experts say you can minimize your exposure to BPA by choosing fresh food over canned.
And for children, let them drink powdered infant formulas and bottle or boxed juices.
