WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A sick child. A broken pipe at home. Or, worse - weather gets in the way. Anything can happen before you take off on vacation.

Living Smart wants to help you back up those plans.

Smart Money says there are five types of insurance you need to beat the heat.

Travel insurance can help if you get sick on the trip (or before) or have to cancel the trip at the last minute. You'll find those policies through your travel provider.

If a road trip is in your future, in a rental car, review your auto policy. Make sure you're covered in the event of an accident. Or, use a credit card that offers a collision damage waiver.

Double check your homeowners insurance too. Especially before you host that big backyard garden party. You could be at fault if someone drinks too much or gets hurt.

It's been a slow hurricane season. But, if you live in low lying areas, flood insurance is one thing you can't do without. Flood damage from a hurricane is not covered by your typical homeowners policy.

And, did you know you can even insure your wedding day goes off without a hitch. No guarantees about the marriage, though. But, weather insurance can cover you if rain tries to put a damper on your big day.
