BRUNSWICK (WCSH) -- The soccer teams of the future met at Bowdoin College this weekend for Robocup.
Teams of college students are creating robots that play a 20 minute automated soccer game.
Using cameras to "see," the robots are able to find the ball and fire the it on net. In the past, the robots looked more like dogs than humans. But the students are now making human-like robots in hopes that they might have a more real-world application.
The goal of the robocup project is to create a robotic soccer soccer team to compete against a world champion human soccer team by 2050.
In the meantime, Bowdoin's team, the Northern Bites, is preparing for the Robo World Cup. The competition will be in Austria the first week in July.
