SAVE: No sales tax August 1-3 in Va.

VIRGINIA (WUSA9) -- Good news, shoppers. Tax-free weekend is upon us!

Virginia's sales tax holiday for clothes, shoes and school and office supplies is Friday, Aug 1 through Sunday, Aug 3.

During the three-day event, most school and office supplies less than $20 each and clothes and shoes less than $100 each will be exempt from Virginia's 5.3 percent state and local sales tax. In Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads where the sales tax is 6 percent, you'll save even more!

Tax-exempt items include pens, pencils, loose leaf ruled notebook paper, scissors, binders, backpacks, construction paper, sneakers, hats, shirts, dresses, jeans, bathing suits, diapers, T-shirts and more.

If you can't make it to the store, you can shop tax-free online during the sales tax holiday.

Virginia's other two sales tax holidays are for hurricane preparedness in May, and for energy-efficient appliances and water-saving items in October.
