Alfred Angelo Bridal closing stores nationwide, employee confirms

Some customers say they found out store closures through social media.

SPRINGFIELD (WUSA9) - Alfred Angelo Bridal, one of the world's biggest retailers of wedding dresses, is closing its stores nationwide, including Virginia.

An employee at a Texas location confirmed that the company is filing for bankruptcy and said that all of the employees were notified of the closure through a conference call on Thursday morning.

Many angry customers are reporting their frustrations and the company's lack of response online. Women are reporting on Twitter that they will not be able to get their dresses although they paid for them in full.

Some of those angry customers outside the Springfield Alfred Angelo store Friday. They arrived to locked doors, a nearly empty bridal shop, and a closed sign out front.

"I'm just really surprised and I really want my dress," said Tamara Ellis, a bride-to-be.

Ellis was lucky enough to get her dress from the store's manager today. WUSA9 spoke with the manager who says she and her employees worked off the clock Thursday night to pack and ship all of the dresses out to the brides and bridal parties.

Other customers left the Springfield location empty-handed, looking for another plan. Hundreds, if not thousands of dollars are in limbo according to some customers.

Meanwhile, those who ordered their dresses online have not received their items at all.

WUSA9 reached out to Alfred Angelo Bridal, but the company has yet to get back to us.

According to its website, the company is based in Delray Beach, Florida and operates more than 60 stores in the U.S., including Virginia and Maryland. The company also has stores in the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, South America and Hong Kong.
