This July 4, D.C. area drunk driving can be stopped- all people need is a Lyft.

The nonprofit Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) is offering the 2017 Independence Day SoberRide program to keep impaired drivers off the roads.

The program will offer residents 21 and older celebrating the holiday with alcohol a safe ride home for free, or up to $15. All they have to do is download Lyft to their phones, enter the code SOBERJULY4 in the app’s “Promo” section. The SoberRide code works for the first 1,500 Lyft users who enter the code.

“In 2015 and according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, over a third (36 percent) of all U.S. traffic fatalities during Independence Day involved drunk drivers,” Kurt Gregory Erickson, WRAP’s president, said in the release. “Worse, 46 percent of male drivers ages 21 to 34 killed in U.S. Independence Day crashes over the last half-decade were drunk.”

WRAP’s SoberRide program announced its partnership with Lyft in March 2017, but has provided 67,432 free safe rides home to would-be drunk drivers in the Washington area since 1993.

It is offered throughout the Washington area, including the District of Columbia, Maryland counties of Montgomery and Prince George’s, and the Northern Virginia counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudon and Prince William.

The program will operate beginning at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4 and continue until 2 a.m. Wednesday, July 5.
