Three people were killed early Saturday morning after leading police on a car chase in Charles County, Md., police said.

Around 2 a.m., a Maryland State Police trooper spotted a Honda Civic driven by 28-year old Sollan Belina traveling southbound on Route 925. According to police, Belina ran a red light and started driving on the wrong side of the road. When police tried to pull him over, he began speeding and a chase ensued.

During the chase, Belina appeared to stop for the officer but then sped off driving more than 100 mph.

Police continued the pursuit, but lost sight of the car as it headed toward Billingsley Road.

The car was later found crashed into a tree.

During their investigation, police said the vehicle became airborne after hitting a median, entered a grassy area in front of a convenience store, before hitting a tree.

Belina was pronounced dead at the scene. His two passengers, 24-year-old Luis Daboin and 24-year-old Joseph Nystorm, also died in the crash.

Police believe that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. No other injuries were reported.

The investigation continues.
