Alums from Fla. HS raise money to get students to 'March For Our Lives'

Nyswander Thomas told WUSA9 that the remaining money from the alumni group's fundraising efforts will go back to Parkland to help students and staff recover in the aftermath of the shooting.

Alums of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, Florida, are working to make sure as many current students can attend the "March for our Lives" as possible.

The alumni group, Mobilizing MSD Alumni, has raised more than $85,000, through a GoFundMe account, to bring close to 1,000 MSD students and chaperones to the march in Washington, D.C.

Alum Rachel Nyswander Thomas said it was important to make sure Douglas students' voices are heard.

"The alumni are very much dedicated to making sure that the student movement is echoed, it's amplified and that it's successful in making sure that we have serious policy change in this country," she said.
