WASHINGTON (WUSA9) - Ready your taste buds: Taste of DC is coming this weekend!
And for the first time ever, the festival will be completely cash-free.
The annual event brings together over 65 local restaurants as well as live entertainment, a beer garden, culinary displays and more. This year, participants are asked to purchase “TasteBand” packages. A TasteBand is a wristband which can be loaded with “Taste Tokens” that replace the need for cash or credit cards. $1 equals 1 Taste Token.
Previously, participants often had to pay in cash to enjoy samples of the food which range in price from $1 to $3, with specialty items costing $8 or less.
This year’s entertainment includes a mixology demo, a DC Chili Cook-Off, and performances by local bands and DJs.
Taste of DC is being held at RFK stadium this year, moving from its previous location on Pennsylvania Avenue. It kicks off on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Sunday morning at 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. There will also be a Taste After Dark event on Saturday night from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.
TasteBand packages can be bought here and prices range from about $10 to $50.
