2009 Susan G. Komen Global Race for the Cure®.

"All of us at W*USA-TV are excited and proud to once again be the exclusive television partner of the Komen Race for the Cure in the Washington, D.C. area," says Allan Horlick, W*USA-TV President and General Manager. "This marks the 6th straight year of our partnership, and while the race itself has become the premiere event day of its kind in our area, to W*USA and Susan G. Komen for the Cure this is truly a robust year-round effort, and we will do everything we can to make sure that 2009 will be the best year ever!"

This year's race is slated for Saturday, June 6, 2009 on the National Mall. W*USA 9 has been at the forefront in educating viewers about the importance of early detection of breast cancer. Buddy Check 9, the station's own breast cancer awareness program, was launched in 1993 and 9NEWS NOW Anchor Andrea Roane has been relentless in sending the message to the entire Metropolitan Washington community.

"I am thrilled 9NEWS NOW is again partnering with the Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure so we can help Nancy Brinker fulfill the promise she made to her sister in 1982 to end breast cancer," said Ms. Roane. "Susan G. Komen National Race for the Cure began a conversation 27-years ago that now has the whole world talking. I am extremely proud of the role Buddy Check 9 has played in educating women & men about how to reduce their cancer risks, the strides made in breast cancer research and new treatments. My special thanks to all the Buddies who've allowed us to share their stories of hope. Like you, I am waiting for the day when we gather together to celebrate the elimination of breast cancer from our lives."

Anita Brikman"The 'Living Well' team is very committed to reporting on women's health issues, especially breast cancer," said Anita Brikman, who heads up the station's "Living Well" health team, in addition to her duties as 9 News NOW's 5pm and 11pm co-anchor.

"One in eight women will face this frightening diagnosis at some point in their lives. But better screening, more focused and powerful treatments, as well as awareness of the need to catch this cancer early, are helping more women survive breast cancer."
