(WUSA) - A little taste of Cuba was featured Monday morning on 9NEWS NOW, and a bigger taste could be yours if you want to travel to a place rarely seen by Americans.
Guillermo Pernot is a chef and partner at the Cuba Libre restaurant in Northwest Washington. He visited 9NEWS NOW Monday morning to make a dish featuring malanga. It is a tropical vegetable, also known as eddoe, that is popular in Caribbean dishes.
His dish combined malanga shredded into thin ribbons, a dash of salt, some culantro (which is different from cilantro), a tiny bit of garlic, and one or two eggs. Mix it all together, and put it in your fryer at 375°.
You can enjoy this dish at Cuba Libre Restaurant in the District. It is at 801 9th Street NW, just north of Metro Center.
Pernot is also leading a culinary tour of Cuba. This April and this November, he will take up to 20 people to visit restaurants, farms, markets, fishmongers, and more. The 5-day trip for April is sold out. But Pernot will be visiting the island again in November after the hurricane season.
