WASHINGTON (WUSA9) -- The fracture was nothing short of horrifying, and certainly not an injury that's typically seen on the basketball court.
Louisville guard Kevin Ware broke his right leg in two places when he landed the wrong way during Sunday's NCAA match-up with Duke University.
Ware's bone broke through the skin and his teammates were left in shock, some weeping openly as he was taken off the court on a stretcher.
Before he left, Ware told them to just win the game which they did. The Louisville Cardinals beat Duke 85-63 to reach their second straight Final Four.
Ware underwent a 2-hour surgery Sunday, in which doctors reset the bone and inserted a rod.
Dr. Rajeev Pandarinath, an orthopedic surgeon with George Washington University Hospital, talks about the injury.
