WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- The problem of the NFL's replacement referees is about to boil over. Monday night in Seattle the Seahawks hosted the Green Bay Packers for Monday Night Football.
With less than five seconds left in the game, Seattle QB Russell Wilson threw a Hail Mary. Receiver Golden Tate came down with the ball and the winning touchdown. But the replay showed that Tate pushed off, which should have been a flag. It also showed the Packer defender had actually intercepted the ball, but the referee signaled that it was a TD.
The play gave the Seahawks the come-from-behind 14 to 12 victory.
The Twitter reaction to the game was rough:
Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley (@JermichaelF88): Come on @NFL this s*** is getting out of Control. Caused us a DAMN game. Horrible!"
USA TODAY Sports NFL Editor Kevin Manahan (@KevinCManahan): "The crazy thing: these guys were actually officiating games somewhere else before the NFL hired them. #nfldisgrace"
Radio host Jim Rome (@jimrome): "What a disaster. 100x worse than last Monday night."
Miami Dolphins running back Reggie Bush (@reggie_bush): Refs single handedly blew this one..."
Wisconsin State Senator Jon Erpenbach (@JonErpenbach) even tweeted NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell's office phone number: "You can leave a message for nfl commish roger goodell at 2** *** ****. #NFL"
The tweet was retweeted more than 775 times.
