WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A suspect hospitalized after a late-night officer-involved shooting in Northwest DC has been charged.
Metropolitan Police officials say shortly before 11:00 Wednesday night three plain clothed officers were patrolling near Georgia Ave and Kenyon St. NW when they were approached by a male holding his side. When he spotted the officers, he ran east on Kenyon Street. The officers followed him into an alley in the 400 block of Kenyon Street. The man then pulled a handgun, say police, and one officer fired. The man was hit several times.
The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment. No officers were injured in the incident.
Investigators recovered the man's weapon at the scene.
The man, whose name has not been released, is charged with assault on a police officer while armed with a gun and criminal possession of a gun without a license.
The 400 block of Kenyon Street was shut down for a few hours after the incident, but has since reopened.
The investigation is ongoing.
