(WUSA) -- Most of us who have the regular E-Z pass device are used to the convenience of whizzing through toll booths, and passing long lines. But for a faster commute on the new beltway Express lanes in Virginia later this year, we'll have to use a different gadget: the new E-ZPass Flex.
Tamara Rollison, VDOT'S Communications Director, explains it to us in the interview above.
The E-ZPass Flex lets drivers use the new I-495 Express Lanes in Northern Virginia for free and it allows you to designate when three or more people are in your vehicle on the lanes by sliding a switch to show "HOV ON."
You can obtain an E-ZPass Flex the following ways:
• Sign-up online: ezpassva.com.
• Call toll-free: 1-877-762-7824.
• Visit an E-ZPass Service Center or DMV: The Northern Virginia Service Center is located at 610 Herndon Parkway, Suite 900, Herndon, VA. You can also obtain a transponder at the Tysons Corner DMV at 1968 Gallows Road, Vienna VA.
• Go to select retailers: AAA Mid-Atlantic offers Flex and standard transponders in several locations in Northern Virginia. Transponders will soon be available at Wegmans locations.
