WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- A suspect is in custody after an early morning homicide in Southeast DC.
A shooting victim was found in the 1700 block of 17th Street around 2:00 Wednesday morning. Police officers responding to the call found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was quickly transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead approximately 45 minutes later.
An initial description of the suspect involved in the shooting was released on the DC Police Twitter feed, which detailed the man as African American with dread locks wearing a blue and white shirt.
The suspect later entered a standoff with police and a SWAT team was stationed outside of a home. Several streets were closed surrounding the scene, including Minnesota Avenue at 17th Street.
The standoff is now over.
