When leaves begin to fall and the air gets a little cooler, many restaurants that pride themselves on "seasonal" toppings use this as an excuse to revamp their menu. Sweetgreen has decided not only to switch it up but to make some big changes in the process.
A new campaign Sweetgreen is launching called "Make America Healthy Again" (sound familiar) has caused quite a stir as the chain has decided to take off its hottest menu items - bacon and sriracha sauce. Sweetgreen owners were quoted as saying not only were the menu items unhealthy but also not made in house and thus tarnished their "local only" branding.
To replace the menu items Sweetgreen has added more proteins: roasted trout, roasted brussel sprouts and a warm Portobello mushroom mix with spicy chili flakes to replace the sriracha. Also added to the fall menu are the new "warm bowls" which are salads that include a rice or quinoa component with several toppings.
Though the core of Sweetgreen's "make-it-yourself" salads remain the same - the loss of these two menu items could mean internet outrage. What do you think - will you still go there?
