Smithsonian Folklife Festival
From June 29-July 4 and July 6-9, head over to the National Mall for the annual festival that's celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Come for the free food and admission, but stay for the culture, history and entertainment displays.
Wicked Bloom Social Club BBQ
Even if you're stuck in the office on July 3, end the day with a festive happy hour and barbeque at Wicked Bloom Social Club starting at 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. The best part? Unlimited free hot dogs until 6 p.m. 1540 North Capitol St.

National Independence Day Parade
This event is sure to please young and old alike! Complete with giant balloons, equestrian, celebrities, drum lines and plenty of flags, the parade starts at 11:45 a.m. on the 4th and begins on Constitution Ave. between 17th and 7th Streets.
Nats vs. Mets game
Watch the great American past time in the nation's capital at Nats Park, where the boys in red will face off against the New York Mets at 11:05 a.m. on the 4th. It'll end early enough for you to catch the afternoon sun!
At Brookland's Finest, feast on this special DMV delicacy every Tuesday of the summer as well as every night from July 1-4. Enjoy a hefty portion plus a DC Brau beer for $30.
A Capitol Fourth concert and fireworks
John Stamos hosts the televised event this year, which will feature music, celebrity guests and maybe even a firework or two. Grab a picnic blanket and enjoy the view and the crowd on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.
