Super Bowl Ads: among the hits was Weego, the beer-fetching dog.
MCLEAN, Va. (WUSA) -- Gannett's USA Today hosted an " Ad Meter" research party for the 24th year in a row. It's USA Today's of gauging which commercials aired during the Super Bowl are the most popular with viewers.
More than 150 people packed into an auditorium where they were given simple instructions and a hand held remote that tallied their votes. The goal was to simply tally if the participants liked or disliked the advertisements.
USA Today spokeswoman Heidi Zimmerman said, "We bring regular citizens in. They rate the commercials on how much they like or dislike them."
The ads cost $3.5 million for 30 seconds of air time.
This year's popular choice among the panel at USA Today's event was the "Dog & Doritos" commercial. The ad depicts a dog bribing his owner with Doritos in exchange for secrecy over the dog burying the family cat.
WUSA-TV is owned by Gannett Coporation which is also the parent company of USA Today.
