WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- The U.S lags behind many of its rivals when it comes to the minimum wage. President Obama is proposing a hike to $9 from the current $7.25, which would still leave the lowest paid American worker way behind counterparts in several other developed countries. Australia is tops with a minimum wage of nearly $17 an hour. Next comes France, England and Japan.
Not everyone thinks that raising the minimum wage is a good idea. In fact, some argue it could kill jobs.
Michael Saltsman of the Employment Policies Institute explains why he thinks boosting the minmum wage is a REALLY bad idea.
