Following the devastation from Hurricane Harvey, there is a post going around on social media that informs you of a number to call to reach the National Guard in Texas if you’re in an emergency. However, the number listed is incorrect.
The number 1-800-527-3907 actually rings to a claim service at Foremost Insurance Group.
On Monday, the company acknowledged the post and sent WUSA9 the following statement:
“We are aware that a social media post was created that attempted to provide contact information to the Texas National Guard. Regrettably, this post incorrectly provided the phone number to one of our claim contact centers rather than the phone number of the Texas National Guard. This post was then subsequently reposted on various media platforms by individuals hoping to share helpful information. We have been unable to locate the origin of the original post and have no information that the author of the post was in any way associated with our company.
We want to make sure all those affected by Hurricane Harvey and the subsequent storms know how to reach out for emergency assistance. Please call 911 if you have an emergency. Anyone who calls our claims center attempting to reach the National Guard is being directed to contact 911 for assistance. “ -Foremost Insurance Group spokesperson
