Severe storms spawned a small tornado in Silver Spring Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service confirmed.
The EF-0 twister snapped many large tree branches and uprooted a few others. Some of the trees toppled onto homes. Fortunately, no one was hurt.
The tornado topped out with winds reaching approximately 70 miles per hour. The NWS said it traveled down Dennis Avenue near University Boulevard for about a fifth of a mile.
Residents in the area were without power for close to three hours after the storm.
Elsewhere in Montgomery County, officials said one person had to go to the hospital for minor injuries after storm debris blew into their home. Another house is isn’t safe to live in because of storm damage.
