WASHINGTON — As the jheat index in the region approaches triple digits, D.C.'s heat emergency plan has been activated until at least Wednesday, according to the city's Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEMA) agency.
According to the VERIFY team, historically, heat has led to the most weather-related deaths in the U.S. The city's heat plan addresses these concerns by designating several sites across the city as cooling centers where residents without access to adequate air conditioning can stop by to cool off.
If you need a place this week to escape the heat, here's a list of all the city's designated cooling centers across D.C.'s eight wards, from spray parks to libraries with AC.
