Nats Park has transformed into a winter wonderland for the holidays

Enchant creates an immersive holiday experience for a third year in D.C.

WASHINGTON — Nationals Park has been transformed into a winter wonderland for Enchant in Washington, D.C. More than 4 million lights fill the stadium to create an immersive holiday experience.

“It is absolutely unbelievable to watch this event gets built,” said Heather Gordon, Enchant’s company manager. “Everything from the time it takes to cover the entire field with floor to watching an ice rink get built.”

This is the event’s third year in Washington, D.C. Each year, there is a new magical story to guide visitors through an illuminated maze. This year, the maze is based around “Santa’s Magic timepiece,” which allows him to deliver gifts to children around the world in one night. When the timepiece breaks, visitors must locate eight stars through the maze to help save Christmas.

“We create our own stories that we design,” said Gordon. “And we help manufacture all of the beautiful light sculptures you see out around us.”

Visitors can spend hours exploring the maze, skating on the ice rink or shopping at the holiday village. More than 45 vendors sell delicious treats, collectable items and specialty crafts.

The White House Historical Association has a booth set up in the concourse. Matthew Castello, senior historian for the White House Historical Association, said it’s a great place to buy the 2022 official White House Christmas Ornament.

“We’ve created these ornaments every year since 1981,” said Castello. “And we have so many people that tell us they collect these ornaments and they pass the ornaments onto their children. And so what better way to start that tradition at a young age. Come on out with your family.”

Enchant is open nightly through January 1, 2023.
