Redskins acquire Alex Smith from Chiefs

The Washington Redskins have acquired quarterback Alex Smith from the Kansas City Chiefs, the team announced Wednesday.

The Redskins sent cornerback Kendall Fuller, and a third-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft to the Chiefs in exchange for the quarterback.

Smith is a 13-year NFL veteran who was te No. 1 pick overall in the 2005 NFL Draft.

The quarterback has appeared in 156 games with 151 starts. He has thrown for 31,888 yards with 183 touchdowns and 96 interceptions.

Alex Smith is slated to become the 50th starting quarterback in franchise history.

From 2013-2017, the Redskins quarterback was one of three quarterbacks to win at least 50 games as a starter. The other two quarterbacks are Tom Brady and Russell Wilson.

Smith played college football at Utah, where he compiled a 21-1 record.

The Redskins will introduce Alex Smith Thursday during a press conference at Redskins Park.
