As the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs face-off Friday night, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel are also facing off in some friendly competition.
The Mayors have wagered one who will win the game. The stakes? Local delicacies from the area as well as a donation to Puerto Rican hurricane efforts.
Mayor Bowser will be offering half-smokes from Ben’s Chili Bowl and DC Brau Beer. Meanwhile, Mayor Emanuel will be offering sausage from Publican Quality Meats, prime bone-in ribeye steaks from Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse, and two growlers of Vice District Brewing Co’s Habitual beer.
Both mayors are confident that they’ll win. Mayor Bowser says she looks forward to enjoying Chicago cuisine thanks to the Nationals’ “all-star line-up and home field advantage” while Mayor Emanuel says that he has “no doubt that they will fly the W and take the series.”
Friday night’s game is the first in the best-of-five series between the Cubs and the Nationals. Majority Whip Steve Scalise will be throwing the first pitch at 7:31 p.m. Scalise recently returned to Capitol Hill after being injured by a shooter in June.
