WASHINGTON -- Are you traveling this Thanksgiving? You are not alone.
AAA predicts more than 54 million Americans will be traveling between the Friday before Thanksgiving until the Sunday after the holiday this year and Washington, D.C. is one of the top 10 travel destinations.
If you are a regular driver or flyer in the DMV, you know what bad traffic looks like. Imagine that... and then multiply your commuting time by 2.5. And if you plan on leaving on the worst day to travel, Tuesday, Nov. 20, then you better get moving before 5 p.m. or after 7 p.m. AAA says those are the worst travel times if you're taking the Capital Beltway (I-495).
Now, if you're catching a flight... the busiest time at the airports is still the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. After reviewing data from the past three years, AAA said traveling on Thanksgiving Day has consistently had the lowest average price per ticket and is the lightest travel day.
Here's a timeline for the busiest travel days this Thanksgiving.
