NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- The Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNYS) is hiring for multiple positions.

The NNSY took to Facebook to announce the hiring, Tuesday. They are currently looking to fill the following positions:

  • Boilermaker
  • Electrician
  • Electronics Mechanic
  • Fabric Worker
  • Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic
  • High Voltage Electrician
  • Insulator
  • Machinist
  • Marine Machinery Mechanic
  • Metals Inspector
  • Painter
  • Pipefitter
  • Rigger
  • Sheet Metal Mechanic
  • Shipfitter
  • Welder
  • Woodcrafter

In partnership with Tidewater Community College, NNSY offers an Apprentice Program. The program is designed to attract talented workers who are looking for a rewarding career with the federal government.

For those who wish to apply for the Apprentice Program, applications will be accepted for the 2017 class until November 13.

The classes will combine TCC's academic classes with NNSY's trade theory training and on-the-job learning experience.

Those who participate in the classes will also be given working hours within the first year of the program. The classes will be taught by TCC faculty members, and be held at the Portsmouth Campus.

A Certificate of Completion will be given at the end of the two nine-week sessions.

Apprentices receive a salary of around $13.84 to $15.26 per hour. Promotions are rewarded upon successful completion of program requirements.
