NORFOLK, Va. (WVEC) -- It's a big day for our United States Navy. The military branch is celebrating its 241st birthday on Thursday.

And with a birthday comes a celebration: as part of Fleet Week Hampton Roads, sailors spent some time doing some celebratory activities with students at Ingleside Elementary school in Norfolk.

Sailors spent time in the classroom with kids, answering questions and teaching. The groups goal was to leave an impact on students, and inspire them.

"Presenting like this positive image of the military to these kids, because they're around it all the time. So, they should know that we're normal people, that we're here to help them in every way possible," said Kelsy Mann, who spent time with kindergartners.
