Wheaton woman arrested in death of her great-grandmother

Shannon Marci Jefferson Lozano was charged with first-degree murder of her great-grandmother, Doris Elizabeth Shelton.

Police in Montgomery County have arrested and charged a 22-year-old woman for the murder of her 80-year-old great-grandmother.

Shannon Marci Jefferson Lozano, of the 10500 block of Cascade Place in Wheaton, was charged with first-degree murder of her great-grandmother, Doris Elizabeth Shelton, of the same address.

On March 23, at approximately 3:19 pm, police responded to a 911 call from the victim's husband who reported that he had come home and found his wife unresponsive and not breathing.

First responders at the scene confirmed that the victim was deceased.

Police said after an initial investigation by officers at the scene revealed that there was apparent trauma to Shelton’s body, they began to investigate the death as a homicide.

Lozano was soon identified as a suspect, and was later arrested by park police a short distance from the home.

She was transferred to the Central Processing Unit and is being held without bond.

Police said the victim’s body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to confirm the cause of death.

The investigation into this homicide is ongoing.
