Two Virginia middle schools have been threatened via social media, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

Two Virginia middle schools have been threatened via social media, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

According to officials, the social media post included a photo of a handgun. It is unclear whether or not the weapon pictured is real, but officials say they are treating the post as a real threat.

T. Benton Gayle Middle School in Stafford County and Thornburg Middle School in Spotsylvania County both received threats. Both Spotsylvania and Stafford detectives are currently investigation.
