The ICE detainee who escaped from custody near the Dulles Toll Road in Virginia is back in custody, U.S. Immigration and Customers Enforcement confirmed Monday afternoon.
Carlos Rivas-Mendez, 27, assaulted transport personnel and got out of the vehicle on Dulles Toll Road between Loudoun County Parkway and Old Ox Road, Loudoun County Sheriff’s officials said.
Sky9 was over the scene while police and K9s searched on the side of the road for the man with their guns drawn. The sight concerned several residents and commuters.

Two hours later, Rivas-Mendez was found a few miles up the road at Mercure Circle and Old Ox Road. He was taken into custody without incident.
The Sterling man had been arrested earlier in the day by LCSO deputies and was transferred into ICE custody at 11:08 a.m.
At this time, Rivas-Mendez is facing charges of assault and battery.
