MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (WUSA9) -- Four 13-year-olds were arrested for making clown threats to a Montgomery County middle school earlier this week.

The males who attend Rosa Parks Middle School were all charged as juveniles with offenses relating to the threat of mass violence, according to Montgomery County police. They have been returned to the custody of their parents.

Authorities and administrators learned about the social media threats made to several students on Monday, police said. The posts included the word "clown" and photographs of clowns. The suspects also used Instagram to post photographs of shovels and axes. Other schools, including Argyle and Farquhar were named in posts, however no specific threats were made towards students.

One of the students named in the post asked what they planned on doing to the students mentioned. The response was "kill them."
