Schools closed, power still out after strong winds in DMV area

School are closed and several D.C. area after a strong wind storm hit the area.

Several school are closed or delayed and the power is still out for several residents in the D.C. area after strong a wind storm hit the region on Friday.

In Fairfax County, Virginia, at least seven elementary schools are closed on Monday because the schools do not have power.

1. Canterbury Woods Elementary School

2. Crossfield Elementary School

3. Forestville Elementary School

4. Freedom Hill Elementary School

5. Lynbrook Elementary School

6. Parklawn Elementary School

7. Westbriar Elementary School

As of 4:50 a.m., thousands of residents in the D.C. area are still without power.

Here is the latest count:

  • Pepco (total) - 2217
  • Dominion Va. power (NOVA Only) - 19073
  • BGE (total) - 31518
  • NOVEC (total) - 1412
  • SMECO (TOTAL) - 767
  • POTMAC EDISON (MD only) - 303

Crews are still working to return power to these areas.
