ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA9) -- One person was burned by electricity in Alexandria and transported to the hospital with serious injuries, officials said.

The industrial accident happened in the 700 block of Wythe Street Wednesday around 7:30 a.m. A worker was carrying a rebar that came in contact with a live wire along Washington Blvd. and Wythe St.

The area is currently closed to traffic.

Many traffic lights in the area are out due to the power outage from the accident, according to information from the city of Alexandria.

Drivers in the area should treat all uncontrolled intersections as four-way stops.
