A 43-year-old man is dead after crashing his motorcycle into the back of a tractor-trailer in Oxon Hill, Maryland State police said.

The crash happened Sunday night around 9 p.m. southbound on I-495, just north of Rt. 414. on St. Barnabas Road, authorities said.

The victim in the crash was identified as Abdul W. Robinson, 43, of Temple Hills, Maryland.

Authorities said the crash happened when both the motorcycle and tractor-trailer were driving in lane two. Robinson was trying to squeeze between the witness' vehicle and the tractor-trailer when he failed to slow down and ended up crashing into the back of the truck.

The motorcycle then hit the guardrail and continued about 100 feet before coming to a halt.

Police said the truck driver did not know that a crash had happened until the witness flagged him over. The witness and truck driver pulled to the shoulder to wait until police got to the scene.

According to authorities the motorcycle was a 2003 Yamaha YZF-R1 with Maryland Registration.

The driver of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the tractor-trailer was a 2012 Kenworth with Pennsylvania registration. It was hauling an "East" dump trailer with Pennsylvania registration. The driver is a 50-year-old from New Jersey.

No charges have been made due to the circumstances of the crash.
